The 22nd Amendment came into force.
The 22nd Amendment to the US constitution was ratified in 1951 on February 27th, limiting the President of the United States to only two terms.
This amendment was in response to the unprecedented third term of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and was intended to prevent any future President from accumulating too much power and becoming a de facto dictator.
