The Battle of Hastings took place
Many of us remember the year of the Battle of Hastings, but it was actually October 14th when William, the Duke of Normandy, led a successful skirmish against King Harold II, who lost his life in the conflict. William became King, and the rest is, well, history!

In 1586, the infamous Mary Queen of Scots was put on trial for conspiracies made against Queen Elizabeth. She was ceremoniously killed for her crimes in 1587.
Martin Luther King Jr. was rewarded.
In 1964, celebrated civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was officially announced as the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. He remains a symbol of hope and peace for people all over the world to this day.
Elie Wiesel was given the same award!
In 1986, Auschwitz survivor Elie Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He earned the prize for his efforts to ensure the Holocaust and all its tragedies were remembered – and, to this day, millions of us around the world look back and remember the atrocities that took place during the Second World War.
Terrorists hit Mogadishu.
In 2017, a terrorist bomb attack hit a truck in Mogadishu, Somalia. About 300 people died from the attack, and hundreds more were injured.
