The Dai-Gohonzon came to fruition.
In 1279, the Dai-Gohonzon was inscribed. It was created by Nichiren, a Japanese Buddhist monk and founder of Nichiren Buddhism – and it remains one of the most important facets of the faith.
The War of the Triple Alliance began.
In 1864, the War of the Triple Alliance began as Brazilian troops under General João Propício Mena Barreto decided to invade Uruguay. The war lasted until 1870.
The first modern submarine was commissioned.
In 1900, the first submarine of the modern age was officially brought into commission by the US Navy. John Philip Holland, the designer, was honored through its name – the USS Holland. It’s hard to believe these underwater powerhouses have been running for well over a century!
Inejiro Asanuma was assassinated.
Inejiro Asanuma, a Japanese politician, was killed with a sword during a TV debate in 1960 – a live televised event. He was murdered by Otoya Yamaguchi, a 17-year old nationalist.
