The Battle of Montgisard took place.
In 1177, the Battle of Montgisard took place. Baldwin IV of Jerusalem defeated Saladin and the even larger Ayyubid force. It was considered a major victory for Jerusalem, with the win even marked by the building of an entire monastery!
A cyclone hit India.
In 1839, a cyclone hit the southeast with high winds and a 40-foot storm surge. In doing so, it destroyed the city of Coringa. Storm waves also destroyed 20,000 ships and killed about 300,000 people.
