In 1908, the popular song "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" was first copyrighted. Written by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer, the song became an instant hit around the country's stadiums and has been a fixture at baseball games ever since! Interestingly, neither of the songwriters had attended a baseball game before penning the iconic melody - hey, it still works!
General Motors started a huge expansion.
On May 2nd, 1918, General Motors (GM) bought the Chevrolet Motor Company of Delaware, founded by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant. This was a huge deal at the time because it allowed GM to expand its product line and establish Chevrolet as one of its primary brands. Today, Chevrolet is one of the leading automobile manufacturers in the world!

In 1955, Tennessee Williams was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." The play explores themes of truth and repressed desires through the complex relationships of a wealthy southern family. The play's success cemented Williams' reputation as one of America's greatest playwrights - his works are still staged all over the world today!
Bin Laden was brought down.
On this day in 2011, US Navy Seals and CIA operatives killed the FBI's most wanted man, Osama bin Laden, in a covert operation in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The operation was authorized by then-US President Barack Obama and marked a significant victory in the fight against terrorism.
