On March 19th, 1831, the City Bank of New York became the first bank in the United States to fall prey to a robbery. The thieves stole $245,000 in cash and securities - and although a $5,000 reward was served up, the robbers got away, and the crime remained a mystery!
Celebrating women everywhere.
The first International Women's Day was observed on March 19th, 1911, with rallies held in Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, and Germany. Over one million people participated, including men and women who discussed issues such as women's right to vote, work, vocational training, and an end to discrimination in the workplace.Â

On this day in 1918, the Standard Time Act was signed into US law, establishing standard time and introducing Daylight Saving Time (DST) as a way to conserve energy during World War I. DST is the practice of setting our clocks ahead by one hour during the summer's months, allowing for an extra hour of daylight in the evenings.
Viva Las Vegas!
In 1931, the US state of Nevada legalized gambling after more than two decades of prohibition. This move led to the development of Las Vegas as a gambling mecca and transformed the state's economy! Today, Nevada remains one of the few states in the US where casino gambling is legal - and doesn’t it just know it!
You can’t make an omelet without cracking a few… thousand eggs?!
On March 19th 1994, the world's largest omelet was cooked in Japan using 160,000 eggs, and it was a massive feast - as you’d imagine! The incredible omelet weighed 6.466 tons, covered 1,383 square feet, and was created by over 55 chefs in the city of Yokohama. The event was organized to promote the nutritional benefits of eating eggs. It worked!
Superbloom from space!
In 2019, Walker Canyon in southern California experienced a stunning "superbloom" of poppies after unusually high rainfall. The vibrant orange flowers covered the hillsides, and the spectacle was so impressive that it was visible from space. Many tourists flocked to the area to witness the phenomenon, causing traffic jams and concerns about damage to the environment.
