In 1937, Dr. Bernard Fantus and his team established the first blood bank at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. The facility allowed for the collection, testing, and storage of donated blood, which could then be used for transfusions during medical procedures. This innovation led to the development of modern blood banking practices, which continue to save countless lives every year!

Robert Foster set a world record on March 15th 1959 for holding his breath underwater, achieving a remarkable 13 minutes and 42.5 seconds. This record stood for an impressive 48 years until it was broken in 2007!

On March 15th 1968, Jimi Hendrix received the rare accolade of the "most spectacular guitarist in the world" by LIFE magazine. Hendrix's innovative style of playing the electric guitar and his use of feedback, distortion, and other effects was groundbreaking.

On this day in 1985, the first .com domain name was registered by Symbolic Inc, a computer company based in Massachusetts. The domain name was symbolics.com, marking the beginning of the commercial internet era. Today, there are millions of registered .com domains and they’re a firm part of our everyday lives!

Thunberg had begun protesting outside the Swedish parliament in 2018 and her message quickly spread globally. The strikes drew attention to the urgent need for action on climate change, and helped spark a global movement for environmental activism. Thunberg was recognized as TIME Person of The Year as a result.

Back in March 1996, the National Committee on Pay Equity decided to make a stand. They created a national day to help highlight the gaps between men and women receiving income across the country! National Equal Pay Day falls around this time every year, highlighting the pay discrepancies between women and men for the same work. Despite women's progress toward equal pay, the fight has been ongoing for a century. In 2018, women in equally skilled positions were paid 88% of their male counterparts. There’s still a lot of work to do.
