🗓️ On This Day - June 21st
We’ve finally made it to the first day of summer! That means longer, warmer days and plenty of sunshine! But June 21st is also a historically and internationally important date, too. Here’s everything you should know about June 21st.
On this day
The US Constitution finally came into effect.
On this very date back in 1788, the US Constitution finally came into being when New Hampshire declared itself the ninth state to ratify it. Obviously, the Constitution has been amended multiple times since then – but it still remains the most important document in US history.
William James took a huge step forward in his career.
In 1869, today was the date that William James passed his medical examination at Harvard Medical School. It was a huge step in what would be a fascinating career for the Father of American Psychology!
Sail away, sail away, sail away!
Today was a huge day for German waterway travelers back in 1895, as it marks the opening of the Kiel Canal – which happens to be one of the country's most frequented artificial waterways worldwide. The canal, measuring 61 miles or 98 km, freely connects the Baltic and North Seas together.
Argentina was not to cry for her!
Any musical theatre fan may know that this date back in 1978 was the date that Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s world-famous musical Evita, based on the life of Eva Peron, finally made its premiere! The play at the time starred Elaine Page and premiered at the Prince Edward Theatre in London.

World Giraffe Day
With their long necks, blue tongues, and adorable faces, who doesn’t love giraffes? Sadly, these beautiful beasts continue to face threats from poachers and habitat destruction. So, today, on World Giraffe Day, take the time to look into giraffes and see what you can do to help these stunning creatures thrive!
International Yoga Day
Not to be confused with World Yoga Day in February, this second celebration of flexibility and mind-body unification gives us another opportunity to listen to our bodies this summer. This occasion, in fact, first started through the UN General Assembly – and if you’ve never tried it before, you might just feel a little bit better for doing so. Grab a mat and see how you get on!
