Special Days Falling on June 1st
As it happens, there’s more than a few things you can mark today with, even if you’re already celebrating a birthday or anniversary! It’s time to look into how to save people from choking, how to protect our marine life, and to try an olive or two.World Reef Awareness Day
This special day was set up in 2019 to help draw attention from all over the globe to the plight of our gorgeous underwater reef systems. Coral remains under serious threat of extinction – which will have a devastating effect on millions of marine beasties the world over. Approximately one quarter of all marine species live on reefs!
National Heimlich Maneuver Day
While we hope you'll never have to use it, the Heimlich Maneuver can be a life-saving first aid move that could prevent a fatal choking hazard. If you spot someone choking, the maneuver requires you to stand behind them and clasp your hands around them, just above the navel. You should then thrust upwards into the abdomen, hopefully releasing the lodged object. Today's a great day to find out more.
National Olive Day
Green, black, however you like them – olives are tasty and handy to snack on no matter where you are in the world. Believe it or not, they’re actually fruits – and have common family links in mangoes, peaches, and plums! Today’s the day to give them a try!
