In 1945, the Potsdam Declaration was issued by the United States, Great Britain, and China. It outlined the terms for Japan's surrender in World War II – effectively helping to seal off the conflict for good.

Special Days Falling on July 26th
Here are some of the best reasons to celebrate and mark July 26th, wherever you may be in the world.Liberia Independence Day
Did you know that Liberia was previously a colony of the US? It was founded all the way back in 1822 as a safe point for slaves freed from the trade. Liberia would eventually become a nation in its own right, setting up a constitution of its own by 1847. Despite the nation’s ups and downs in the years in between, Liberians come together and celebrate July 26th as the day they truly united.
Maldives Independence Day
It’s not just Liberia’s independence day today! The Maldives broke free from British rule and oversight following 77 years of empirical reign, with July 26th officially marking their “national day.” Today’s a great day for parades, salutes, and events for people of all ages to enjoy across the country. What’s more, it’s become a public holiday over the years, meaning many people from the Maldives have the day off work and school!
One Voice Day
In a world where we’re connected together almost 24 hours a day, it’s important to take stock of where we are in terms of multiculturalism. World Voice Day centers around the Universal Peace Covenant, which people read and recite to remind each other of how we can all support one another to achieve true peace cross-boundaries. The day was originally set for December 31st, but has since moved to July 26th!
