The First Crusade made its way to Jerusalem.
In 1099, the First Crusade finally reached the city of Jerusalem. The Crusaders proceeded to launch an assault on the city and its inhabitants. It was the last day of what’s become known as the Siege of Jerusalem across history.
The Rosetta Stone was found!
In 1799, soldiers found the fabled Rosetta Stone in the village of Rosetta, Egypt, hence the name! It was found by French soldier Pierre-François Bouchard, amid Napoleon Bonaparte’s Egyptian campaign.
The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project took off!
In 1975, the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project took place – it was the first-ever dual US-Soviet space mission, which ended in a successful docking between an American Apollo spacecraft and a Soviet Soyuz spacecraft.
Twitter took flight!
Microblogging social media mainstay, Twitter, first launched on this day back in 2006. Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Jack Dorsey launched the platform, eventually resulting in a user base of more than 300 million people.

The Democracy and National Unity Day of Turkey
Today marks an important day for Turkish nationals, as it commemorates the deaths of those who fought for democracy against President Erdoğan in 2016. The military coup that strove to overthrow the government resulted in the deaths of 259 people, with at least 2,500 others injured. Today, many people will be thinking of those who lost their lives, and will read further into Turkish history to learn more about its political system.
Pet Fire Safety Day
Fire safety in general is a must, but for our fuzzy and fluffy family members, it’s not easy to communicate what to do if a blaze takes hold! Today is all about learning about what you can do to keep your cats, dogs, and other pets safe and in the event of an emergency, and what to do to get them free and in the clean air if a fire starts.
