If we take a walk back through history, we’ll see that February 5th was no ordinary day in any sense! In fact, throughout the decades and centuries even, it has proven to be a pretty important date on record - whether or not you’re already celebrating today, here are some of the most important things to have ever taken place on February 5th in times gone by.
On this day
Mexico’s General Hospital saw inauguration.
On February 5th 1905, the General Hospital of Mexico was inaugurated. Although it started with four basic areas, the hospital is still up and running today and is a leader in pharmaceutical developments for the country!
Naval missions took to the skies!
February 5th 1913 marks the maiden naval air mission - it was performed by two Greek military aviators, Michael Moutoussis and Aristeidis Moraintinis. They completed their project in a Farman MF.7 hydroplane.
Mexico laid down some ground rules.
Back in 1917, February 5th was the day that Mexico’s current constitution was put into place - it created a federal republic with the powers separated into three different branches; executive, judicial, and legislative.
The Immigration Act of 1917 was passed in the United States.
In 1917, the Congress of the United States passed the Immigration Act on February 5th. It was created to reduce immigration by imposing literacy tests on any foreign visitors arriving into the US. The act was passed despite President Woodrow Wilson’s veto - he didn’t think it had a place in the constitution!
Artists united for the first time.
The American production and distribution company United Artists was launched in 1919. It was created by Mary Pickford, D. W. Griffith, Douglas Fairbanks, and Charlie Chaplin!

Weather people work every day around this country to bring us the all-important news of what our skies are going to look like. And it definitely can’t be easy telling everyone on most days during the winter that it’s going to be cold and a bit grim! Today’s the day to give thanks to all our hard-working meteorologists.
